Factors such as excess oil production, dead skin cells, bacteria and hormones can contribute to acne. Mild breakouts can often be eased with a great daily skincare routine and the occasional face mask! The following face mask recipes contain natural ingredients that really work.
Oatmeal & Honey
Oatmeal is a little powerhouse of an ingredient, having anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. When coupled with anti-bacterial honey it makes for a seriously soothing mask.
Ingredients:
1 tbsp oatmeal
1 tsp honey
3 drops lavender essential oil (optional)
Method:
Make up the oatmeal as you would for porridge. Once cool, mix in the honey and essential oil if using. Apply to a clean face and leave for 10 minutes to experience the full calming effects.
Rinse with warm water and gently pat your face dry.
Egg White, Papaya & Honey Face Mask
Papaya is a great choice as it has acne-fighting vitamins and minerals and is great for reducing redness. Egg white shrinks large pores where the bacteria can grow and helps to prevent pimples and cysts.
Ingredients:
1 egg white
½ cup papaya
1 tsp honey
Method:
Whip the egg white until frothy. Mash the papaya until smooth and add to the egg white.
Mix in the honey and stir until you have a smooth consistency.
Apply to a clean face and let it dry for 15 minutes.
Rinse your face with warm water and gently pat dry.
Avocado & Lemon Spot Treatment
Avocado aids in cell regeneration and is loaded with anti-inflammatory fats that won’t clog up the pores. Honey is anti-bacterial and the lemon juice will lighten hyper-pigmentation.
Ingredients:
½ ripe avocado
2 teaspoons honey
¼ lemon
Method:
Mash the avocado until really smooth, mix in the honey and lemon until completely combined. Apply to the affected areas and leave on for 5 – 10 minutes. Remove with warm water and gently pat dry.
Please note: If you have sensitive skin then skip the lemon juice!
Happy pampering!
