✨ June Reflections – Skin, Scents & Slowing Down
Dear Diary… just kidding. Sort of. Welcome to the very first entry of my monthly reflections – a little love letter from me to you, full of self-care musings, seasonal rituals and the odd skincare secret.
June is such a funny month, isn’t it? Half in the sunshine, half still reaching for a jumper. School winding down, energy ramping up. The strawberries are out, the knees are out, and we’re already trying to remember where we packed the flip-flops.
But amongst all the buzzy energy of summer, I’ve been craving a slower rhythm. More barefoot mornings. More gentle evenings. Less scrolling, more soaking (in the bath, in a book, in a bit of peace and quiet).
Here’s what I’ve been leaning into this month:
🌿 Scent of the Month: Neroli
I’ve been obsessed with neroli lately – that soft, dreamy floral with a citrus twist that just melts stress on contact. A couple of drops in a carrier oil (I love jojoba or almond) and dabbed onto my wrists, and I’m instantly transported somewhere warm and peaceful. And less... shouty.
Tip: Mix 2–3 drops of neroli essential oil into a teaspoon of carrier oil, rub between your palms, cup over your nose and take a long, slow breath in. Repeat as necessary until calm is restored (or at least the urge to throw your phone has passed).
🧴 Skincare Ritual: Cleansing Like You Mean It
If your face wash feels like an afterthought, can I gently suggest… it shouldn’t? I’ve been using my Oat & Mandarin Cleanser like a mini facial massage lately. Warming it in my palms, breathing in that soft, sunny citrus scent, and giving myself a proper minute.
This tiny shift – giving myself time – makes such a difference. It’s not just about clean skin; it’s about caring for it. For me.
🐌 Slow Living Tip: Unbook One Thing
This month I gave myself permission to unbook something. A social thing I’d said yes to out of guilt, not joy. And it felt like a deep exhale.
If your June is looking frantic, try unbooking one thing. Cancel kindly, and use the time to do something that fills you up instead of draining you. Lie in the grass. Nap. Bake. Potter about doing absolutely nothing. Glorious.
🕯️ Cozy Ritual: Vanilla Before Bed
I know everyone bangs on about lavender before bed (and rightly so), but my heart belongs to vanilla this month. Specifically, a generous scoop of my Vanilla Body Custard, warmed between my hands and smoothed all over just before slipping into bed. It’s sweet, soft, comforting – like warm milk, but for your limbs. Instant calm.
Pair it with a candle and a cuppa, and it’s basically a lullaby for your nervous system.
Final Thought…
June doesn’t have to be a sprint to the solstice. It can be a soft, spacious breath. Let your skincare be slow. Let your life be slow. There’s so much beauty in doing less, but doing it with intention.
Let me know what you’re loving this month – scents, rituals, little joys. And if you’ve unbooked something, I want to hear all about it.
With love, sunshine, and slightly vanilla-scented palms,
